From the very first time we looked at yoga mats, Toplus were a clear leader in the non slip mat market, and here we’re going to look in more detail at why that is.
This is a mat that sells well, and has amassed a significant amount of positive feedback from previous customers, two of the most important indicators that you can see to endorse a product’s quality and reliability when buying online.
At the time of writing in September 2020, Toplus are topping our best non slip yoga mat list, beating out competition from a range of other brands.
The Toplus Yoga Mat Review
First and foremost, this is a mat that does what it says on the tin. Practicing yoga means you need decent grip. It’s supposed to be a relaxing way to unwind and at the same time be a great way to build body strength in a calm and low impact way. If your feet are sliding all over the place, it’s likely to be frustrating and potentially even increase the chance of injury.
As a non slip mat, this Toplus performs well, whether you’re using it for yoga as we’ve got in mind, or something with similar requirements like Pilates or other floor based exercise and workouts.

That’s covered the headline pro’s and con’s of the product, so let’s briefly touch on each in more detail.
Non Slip
It goes without saying that non slip is good – as grip is something that’s critical to a yoga session to perfect those poses!
This mat is describes as reversible, but in the vast majority of cases you’ll want to use this black side down, with the Toplus logo on show.
That means the anti skid black surface is able to provide maximum grip with the floor, while you’re in contact with the anti slip surface on top.
It’s often overlooked that yoga mats need to provide two sets of grip, one between the floor and the mat, and the other between the mat and you. As we’ve just covered, they’re subtly different, and this mat addresses both situations well by combining the anti skid and ant slip textures respectively.
Tear Resistant
As with any product, you want it to last. As we all know, buying the cheapest item you can find often means you sacrifice that longevity and end up spending more in the long run!
Here, the formation of the two distinct layers results in a strong yet surprisingly thin mat. It would be easy to assume that thin means it tears more easily than thicker mats, but that’s simply not the case. We wouldn’t recommend trying to rip it to prove us wrong of course, we’re not saying it’s invincible.
If you’re looking for a thinner mat, perhaps because you will be carrying it around, but don’t want something that starts to disintegrate or look worn after just a few uses, the Toplus mat performs well.
Great For Yoga, Pilates & Other Floor Exercises
While this section focuses on yoga and we keep referring to yoga mats, these can also be used for other purposes too. Pilates is another type of session that’s incredibly popular, but really any form of floor exercises can benefit from this mat.
Whether you’re stretching, strengthening or making your body work, this is a mat that’s going to be light enough to be transported with you, strong enough to take a bit of a pounding and soft enough to be comfortable while still providing the support you need to complete your activity.
Good Size: 72 Inches By 26 Inches With 1/4 Inch Thickness
Measuring in at approximately 72 inches long (that’s 183cm), 26 inches wide (that’s 66cm) and 1/4 inch thickness (6mm), this is a good sized mat which should be big enough but all but the largest participants in yoga activities. In fact, if you’re particularly tall then you’re going to struggle to get a longer mat than this, without compromising dramatically on weight to move it around.
Even for the taller buyers, you won’t miss out too much here as a result of your height, as most activities don’t require you to be fully stretched out. Most yoga poses for example will mean you’re comfortably able to fit within the available space wherever you need to make contact with the mat.
Lightweight To Carry
The final point refers to getting around and taking your mat with you. For some people that will mean travelling to yoga classes, while for others it might just be to get the mat out at home and put it away again afterwards. Whatever your situation, having a mat that’s not too heavy if helpful.
This Toplus yoga mat is at the lightweight end of the spectrum as it weighs in at a touch over two pounds, and to make things really easy, comes with a carry strap to make the product simple to get hold of to move.
Thicker Mats Give More Cushioning
A quick note on a slight negative in case you’re wondering. The 6mm thickness of this mat does go a long way to keeping the weight down as we noted, but the flip side of that is a compromise on the cushioning qualities. Depending on what you’re plans are for your yoga mat, you may wish to consider something slightly thicker if that concerns you. We’re primarily considering yoga here for which this will be fine.
The T5R Round Up
All in all, this mat provides a lot for its price tag, and we expect it to be an attractive choice to our readers looking to buy something to make the yoga sessions effective, safe and comfortable. As it comes in a selection of colors, it also allows you to choose something that more closely matches your personality too, and there’s even a range of patterns to choose from too if you don’t get drawn to the pain, solid colors.
